Eastwood Baptist Church has a strong, family oriented history. Eastwood started out as a group of families who wanted to start a fundamental independent Baptist church. It was organized in 1977 as Eastwood Baptist Church by a church congregation in Madisonville. In 1978, construction began on a new church building and Christian school that was eventually expanded to a 12-acre campus just one mile east of Murray. Over the years, Eastwood has been blessed with several buildings including a full size gymnasium.
After graduating from Bible College, Andy Harrell served at Eastwood as the Assistant Pastor and worked with the youth program for five years. He was then called to California to be an assistant pastor and then president of a Bible College. Then, 19 years later, in January of 2007, Eastwood welcomed him back as the Pastor. Pastor Harrell has been serving the Lord and preaching His Word for 32 years.
Eastwood Baptist Church has a volunteer driven congregation. The people here are involved and love the church. A group of men come each Wednesday morning to the church to mow the lawns, plant flowers, trim bushes, etc. They serve as the groundskeepers for the entire campus. Volunteers also drive the church buses and vans each week to pick up children and families as far away as Paris, TN on Sundays to bring them to church for youth and adult programs. There is a spirit in our church that visitors can feel, and they always feel at home and very welcome.
Every Wednesday night, children ages three years through sixth grade are enrolled in the Patch the Pirate Club. This program incorporates Bible lessons, verses, and music for a fun filled evening. They are encouraged to learn Bible verses each week, and taught how to incorporate Christianity into their lives at an early age. There is also a youth program for junior high through high school students that meet on Sunday evenings.
While our church is focused on the community, we also support about 60 missionaries every month in countries around the world such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, Romania, Ukraine, China, Israel, and many more. Eastwood supports Rock of Ages Prison Ministries, a program that reaches out to those in prison, where missionaries are sent directly into the prisons to minister to the inmates. Our church motto is “Reaching People, Changing Lives” and our members strive to do that at home and abroad. We also support military missions and Christian Church camps for children during the summer.
Reformers Unanimous is a faith based, national program designed for substance abuse that Eastwood is proud to offer. Every Friday night, volunteers meet with those seeking to change their lives and turn a way from alcohol and drug abuse. They are encouraged to turn to the Bible rather than turning to substance abuse, and also how to deal with issues in life and turn their problems over to God.
Each month, Eastwood hosts a Sunday night Fellowship and different fellowships throughout the year. Anniversary Sunday is celebrated every year and we also have picnics, Vacation Bible School, Sunday school fellowships, and other special events throughout the year. Eastwood has a number of visitation programs. Three times a week, individuals from the church go out into the community to knock on doors and let families know that Eastwood is there for them. Even the teenagers are involved in visitation programs and go each week into the community to witness to fellow teens. Few churches are like us and we stand firm on the King James Bible. We take the Bible literally, and understand it as a way of life. We believe that faith is dependence on God, and if we fail to depend on God, we fail to please Him. Hebrews 11:6 – But withouth faith it is impossible to please Him.
If you are looking for an old-fashioned, traditional church where you can hear the truth about God’s Word, please come visit us at Eastwood. We want your life to be changed by the power of God’s Word. Sunday school for all ages starts at 10AM every Sunday with the morning service following at 11AM. Sunday evening services start at 6PM and Wednesday night Bible study at 7PM.
